Tuffy Tips for Saving Gas

Gas Saving Tip You Would Never Think Of...

Here are a two gas saving tips that you might not think of on your own:

  • Go for the shade. The same sunshine that bakes the interior of your car making it feel like an oven, also works on your gas tank. According to Jim Kliesch, research associate at the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy and vehicle analyst for GreenerCars.org ., "If you let your car bake in the sun, there's going to be a greater amount of evaporative emissions that take place than if you park in the shade." And shade costs you nothing!

  • Replace air filters. When the engine air filter clogs with dirt, dust and bugs, it causes your engine to work harder and your car becomes less fuel-efficient. Replacing a clogged air filter could improve your gas mileage by as much as 10 percent. It's a good idea to have your engine air filter checked at each oil change. The Car Care Council recommends changing your car's air and oil filters every three months or 3,000 miles or as specified in your owner's manual.

Don't skimp on maintenance. Be serious about auto care. Your car's performance depends on it.

The Fall Season is upon us

Time to review the 4 Bs: Brakes, Batteries, Blades and Belts!

Brakes --- A thorough mechanical brake inspection at your local Tuffy Auto Service Center is a great start to fall travel. Your Tuffy Technician will provide a complete brake system inspection, including checking for worn brake pads, sticking calipers and warped rotors, all at no charge to you.

Batteries --- How often should I replace my battery? Battery life varies from vehicle to vehicle and is based on a variety of factors. They are manufactured to last anywhere from two to five years, but exposure to heat, vibration and malfunctioning components of your vehicle's electrical system can shorten the battery's useful life. Whether you are having problems starting your car or have questions about batteries, solenoids and regulators, stop by your local Tuffy Auto Service Center today for a complete starting and charging evaluation!

Wiper Blades --- The time to replace your wiper blades is before you need them! The wiper blades you installed last spring may be ready for replacement. Inspect the blades carefully for cracks, pits and windshield contact. If they seem to be in good shape, be sure to give them a thorough cleaning to remove the grimy build up from summer driving. If there is any doubt, now is the time to replace them and dont forget to change to a cold weather winter wiper blade!

Belts and Hoses --- Cold weather is only going to make existing problems worse. Your Tuffy Technician will perform a thorough belt and hose inspection looking for cracks and pliability. Dont wait until you are stranded by the side of the road to replace these key engine heating and cooling components.
